If you have trusses in your loft it is unfortunate. The Original Builder of your home value engineered the design to make it more affordable for them to construct the roof. The single minded self- centered attitude that lead to this value engineering is manifest throughout the construction industry with profit as the goal. The financialization of homes and the dominance of this trend is understandable given the excessive cost of homes in the South East of England. However this trend prevents us from treating our homes as Homes and imbuing them with a focussed appropriateness for our own lives. The majority of our Homes have become homogenous with no connection to our own selves. Unfortunately, most of us are convinced that we are too busy with Work and surviving to be concerned with Communities or larger political issues. Predominately we are consumers living in homogenized homes and have allowed ourselves to become slaves to Work. We now Live to Work rather than Work to Live. The Government does nothing to address this huge problem either through Housing policy or taxation policy. Anyway. Where was I? Our Homes are rarely designed for future possibilities such as easy conversions. With trussed roofs we find ourselves with excessive amounts of timber in our roof space which prevents us from walking in a straight line. It is not possible to simply cut trusses because they work as a structural unit. The Good news however is a Company has developed a clever method of converting trussed roof which does not involve removing your roof and replacing the trusses which is a disruptive process.

Telebeams are aluminium telescopic beams which are threaded through your lower tile rows and fixed to either side of each truss at ceiling (loft floor) level. This is followed by the insertion of Ashlar walls and collars prior to the removal of the truss braces which allows for easy movement within your loft.

The photographs which accompany this Article illustrate the process. With the right advice you can convert your loft and add much needed space to your Home with minimal disruption. Contact us today for more information.
